’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe. It was truly a “brillig” day, and the “slithy toves” were out there too (quoting from
Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll). Still, a hardy troop of EMPO folks took the challenge, and had a very good time. They even hung around for a good while and chatted while their teeth chattered.
Meet Director Frank Boscoe set interesting courses, which used the possible route choices in a heavily trailed area about as well as you could. Some of the trails were a bit hard to follow due the heavy leaf cover, but they are now marked better than they once were, so it wasn’t too difficult. And even if you left a trail, the woods were very open. It was muddy in the usual places, but I don’t think anyone felt like their shoes were going to be sucked off; so, all in all it was a fun day in the woods.
Much thanks to Frank, who faced a daunting challenge (or two) in getting the courses set up Saturday morning. Thanks to Sue for registration and setup help on Saturday, and to everyone who helped pick-up: Gabor, Cynthia, Frank & I. And thanks to everyone who came to join us (15 entries; 19 participants).
Below are the results. One ominous note is that the most competitive Class was M65+, and three other younger Class winners are actually 65+, but wanted to do longer courses. We need some more young’uns if this is to keep going. The list of
Annual Club Champions has been updated with this year's information.
Next up: Ski-O at Lapland Lake on December 15th! Get you skis tuned and waxed. I hope we see many of you there (I realize everyone doesn’t ski; but you could!).
