As the weather returned to a normal mid autumn, an intrepid group of adventurers showed up to take on the challenge of negotiating the rocks and fallen leaves and obscure trails on the south side of Pineridge XC Center. And it was a challenge. I tried to set the courses such that they would not be easy, but also not brutally difficult (which you could do on this map).  I also enlarged the scale to 1:7500 to make it easier to read. That had the downside of making a few controls closer to the edge of the map, and unfortunately at least 3 people ended up going “off the map”. I am very thankful that they all managed to return safely, and a couple of them successfully finished the course.

Thanks to all the hardy souls who came. And even more thanks to those who helped with registration, training, and control pickup: Janet Tryson, Glen Tryson, Gabor Bobok, Frank Boscoe.

And, of course, Thanks to Walter Kersch, for letting us use his land, his building, his toilets, etc. He has been a most gracious host, once again. Plus, we’ll be back soon! A Ski & Snowshoe-O is planned for Saturday, Feb 13 (more details will be forthcoming).

Finally, this was a good year in many ways, as we held a number of interesting events. Still, we had to focus a lot on our A Meet (national event) at Pineridge in early October, and that may have resulted in fewer nearby local events.  Next year, we are (as a club, if not for all of our members) national-event free, so we hope to develop a more significant local series of events. Stay tuned; and in the meantime, consider Ski-O. That season will commence at Lapland Lake on Sunday, December 20.
